Description

Fnife Games is a small Ōtautahi-based indie video game studio, focused on creating LGBTQIA+ narrative projects. Their core team consists of a graphic designer, a sculptor/writer, a software analyst and an indie musician - all working sporadic part-time hours to deliver fresh queer gaming experiences.

History

Unofficially founded in 2019, Fnife Games spawned out of a collaborative arts collective formed by Thomas Barrer, Nate Tamblyn, Sam Baker and Lukas Mayo. Originally teaming up to make music videos for Lukas’ indie bedroom pop act “Pickle Darling” (currently signed with Father/Daughter Records in San Francisco), this collaboration soon unearthed the radical desire to make interactive experiences through a queer artistic lens.

The drive to make validating LGBTQIA+ games (and the need for an annoying yet SEO-friendly name) ultimately led to the forming of “Fnife Games”. With support from the New Zealand Film Commission, Fnife have been able to journey into the world of indie game development, with a core focus on queer storytelling.

More recently, Fnife were also were chosen to be a part of the Waitaha Canterbury Screen Story Incubator: an initiative to support creators to progress their work closer to production, facilitated by Script to Screen in collaboration with Te Puna Matarau.
